This bright white hotel was very nice and nestled in the heart of scenic Ojai Valley. We've never had staff be so friendly and outgoing. The valet was complimentary which was a pleasant surprise. The room was clean and just the right size and was equipped with a flat screen TV and spacious bathroom. Pillows were way too soft but apart from that the bed was comfy. For some reason, they chose an alarm clock that actually ticked which was rather annoying. Maid service was excellent and they came twice a day - first to do the usual cleaning and second to do the turn-down service, tidying, and ol' chocolate on the pillow.
There are three pools and we spent a little time at the main pool where the drink staff did a nice job. Two other pools are located at the spa. Speaking of the spa, I had an excellent relaxation massage with Amber and only wish I had done it for more than 50 minutes. The atmosphere was comparable to a Burke Williams (so not mind-blowing) but it was very clean and the massage was right on.
The inn is built around a golf course so if you're at all into that, this is the place for you. If you're older, you'll also be at home. :) The clientele definitely skews to the 50+ crowd.
We strolled around the property and were disappointed with the herb garden. It was very small, not very well labeled, and construction going on right next door made it far from peaceful.
You can rent bikes from the property for $5/each which we did one day. You can easily bike into town and the path itself was well-maintained although going too far east takes you into some more run-down spots. Some of the neighborhoods looked really nice and next time we'll hop off the path and cruise around a bit.
All-in-all, the hotel was very nice and the staff was amazingly friendly.
Joe's was a nice, casual bar/grill also located on site which had delicious 22 ounce Hefeweizens (along with a nice selection of microbrews). The pizza was huge and pretty tasty and Erick's turkey wrap was ayyight.
We ate here for dinner on our first night and were disappointed. Erick's porterhouse was overly charred. My fettuccine was stuck together. The artichoke appetizer was excellent, however.
We also tried the Oak Grill for breakfast where we had the buffet. That was also just so-so and not at all worth the whopping $60!
